On the Think Christian Facebook page, we asked the question: When it comes to your faith and trust in Jesus, what role do (or should) feelings play?

I think that those emotional/spiritual “highs” are part of the baby Christian experience, but as we mature they become less frequent. As we mature and become more grounded in the Word, our faith becomes based in the Word, not in our feelings. My experience anyway.

Mary, while I agree with you, I would like to use my maturity and faith to influence my feelings too. The question hence is “Can I train my self to feel in response to my faith?” I think it should.

Last week, I casually mentioned a well-respected Christian ministry to a fellow Christian. With vitriol and definitiveness, he blurted out, “They’re not Christians.”

Unfortunately, I’ve seen enough in our Christian culture—even in the last week—to know this is not some rare ugly example of how Christians can treat fellow believers with whom they don’t agree. Arguments are fine, but why do we seem so quick to turn to hatred, discrediting and exclusivity when we come upon a brother or sister who we deem too conservative, too liberal, too fundamentalist, etc?

Quick Thought: Tim Tebow Super Bowl Ad

Leading up to this year’s Super Bowl, there was some controversy about a pro-life ad from Focus on the Family. The commercial featured Heisman Trophy Winner Tim Tebow and his mom Pam, who talked about her decision not to have an abortion (without actually saying the word abortion). Pro-choice groups criticized CBS for accepting the ad, which was the first “political” ad the network ever approved for the big game.

So what did you think? Was the ad effective? Did it live up to the hype?
